Lopez has been  a US Soccer National Staff Coach concentrating on Region II, and most recently a Development Academy Scout.  Lopez has a long history in the Florida and the Tampa Bay area as a player and a coach, and was previously the Chargers Director of Player Development from 1990-1998. O’Nan further stated, that "we are delighted to bring Roberto back to Florida and the Clearwater Chargers". Lopez joins Garth Pollonais, Director of the Academy, who will be the 2011-2012 U15/16 Head Coach, Steve Heighway, former Director of Youth Development at Liverpool, now an Academy Technical Advisor, and newly named Academy Goalkeeper Coach, Tim Mulqueen.
